Introduction to my Journey

My life has been in a whirlwind lately. I was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer this past Wednesday July 22, 2009. I've created this blog to keep friends and family updated on my journey towards my cure. Please feel welcome to post questions as I want to keep people informed on how I am doing. Also, if you are a woman and reading this... please promise me you will take monthly self-breast exams seriously and have regular mammograms. Go now if you are overdue!

A little about me:
- Born in Toronto, Canada
- Married to a Southern Californian military man (currently deployed in Kosovo)
- Have one sister in Toronto (along with hubby and nephew) and my dad (along with tons of other great family), one sister in Detroit area (along with hubby and newborn niece Chloe)
- Work in Southern California (since 2003)
- Avid mountain biker, road rider, snowboarder and hockey player (I am known more for my enthusiasm and spirit than skill ;-)
- diagnosed at 41 years of age

  1. First, you are very skilled at biking. I can't speak to the other sports. Second, I think the blog is a totally great idea. Lois.

  4. Dear Mo,
You are soooo brave to have the story told like this.
Make sure there is someone to take you to and from cemo since it is good to have a friend during the tretment.
Make sure you have good music to listen to while you are resting after the cemo , it takes about two days to start feeling well again after the treatment.
Make sure to drink lots of water and fluids to help the bad taste and the nausea.
i will be thinking of you and am sure all will go well.
    love Avi

  6. Incredibly admirable of you, Maureen! I hope you can feel the support of your friends from so far away.... I guarantee I'll now get on that mammogram screening (I've been putting it off) -- your willingness to share is inspiring. I'll check back on your journey soon; your strength will carry you through!!

  7. glad the first cemo went well.
do not overdo the biking and workout while you are on treatment since you have to conserve your energy and make sure your resistence is high, you will need your streanth at a certain stage.
    Love you. Avi
