Hi all,
Looks like I had no noticeable side effects from the Herceptin I received by IV last Thursday. I have been feeling better and better since about last Thursday. I feel almost...normal! Apart from being a little more tired, I really do feel quite good now. My stomach still doesn't feel great after meals but I'll get that part figured out. Yogurt seems to go down well. And I have been indulging in the really good creamy Brown Cow yoghurt. Yum! My stomach seems to get worse as the day goes on, where I never really feel good after dinner. I'll survive.
I still have my hair and I don't really have much else to report. How boring! I still need to find a support group ... they have some on Tuesday nights at Hoag Hospital that I will be checking out.
I plan on doing the 38 mile Cool Breeze ride next weekend but I'll decide the night before. Normally I would be riding the 100 mile or double metric century but not this year. I will be fine. I rode 30 miles yesterday (very slowly! on a bike path with NO elevation!) and I feel absolutely fine today. I need to stay active. I know my body and was listening to it, so no lectures please :-) I am resting today... and on that note... going to head to the beach.
Thanks again for all of the supportive comments and notes.

Hey Mo:
ReplyDeleteI agree with listening to your body. Most people don't get enough exercise anyway. It does a lot for your brain and spirit too.
I'm curious what you're doing about work. Are you going in a few days a week, or are you off?
Any Cdn products you have a hankering for?
Hello Mo,
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, but I do google alerts for herceptin which led me to your blog. I was diagnosed at 42 with breast cancer. After a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation I was cancer free and celebrated my 5 year anniversary (since completing treatment) this past February. Well, the cancer monster reared it's ugly head again for me earlier this summer. I had a double mastectomy almost a month ago, and next month I am due to start the same exact chemo regime that you have. In fact, you answered many questions that I had about this particular treatment, so thanks for the info! I was her2 positive the first time around, but herceptin wasn't available then.
I am very impressed by your positive attitude and your commitment to riding your bike! I am hoping we can communicate about "bikes and cancer" and I would love to have you email me! I think we can be of great help to each other! You are looking for a support group, and I am looking for someone to help encourage me to exercise during chemo. Please email me at martinature@hotmail.com. My name is Julie and I work with a breast cancer organization for young women...check out www.youngsurvival.org and read about the Tour de Pink. I hope to hear from you soon...
Julie
Hi Maureen -- you're doing super! I'm glad that you are still exercising and that you can help people like Julie (above). I am proud of you. Continued good thoughts from Ali and me!

Something to keep in mind about exercise:
ReplyDeleteModerate exercise can boost your immune system, but research has also shown that too much intense exercise can have the opposite effect.
More than 90 minutes of intense exercise can weaken your immune system.
I thought that was such a curse when I was training for the marathon. I don't remember getting more colds than normal (heck, that's what pregnancy is for) but just be aware.
Mon
Eh Mo...
ReplyDelete30 miles while on treatment..dang !!
YOU ROCK !!
A few brief comments not worth blogging about:
ReplyDelete- I am still working and do as much as I can. My company has been incredibly supportive of me and has told me to take whatever time I need. But I would go stir-crazy without work!
- I don't have the energy for intense exercise so no worries. I am doing light to moderate exercise (my definition of this of course). Did a 15 mile ride with Lois tonight.
- I am truly honored to be able to inspire and motivate a breast cancer survivor
Auntie Nini,
ReplyDeleteOf course you are an inspiration. Mommy says don't sell yourself short. I'm just impressed with how you are handling everything without your family near you. I would come help auntie, if I wasn't just 15 days old. I swear. I'll make it up to you when I get my driver's license.
Mommy says if I'm good, I can come visit this winter. It's not like I can enjoy the winter. I won't even be able to walk yet.
But I'm good company or at least that's what mommy says. Oh yeah, and I'm incredibly cute. Don't just take my word for it. People tell me all the time I'm cute or tiny or adorable.
Mommy says I'm going to be a heartbreaker. What does that mean?
